CAMBODIA: As the daily cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 rose to more than 200 in Cambodia, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged Cambodians to maintain vigilance and strictly follow preventive measures in order to avoid a disaster.

"Every day, there are more and more new Covid-19 cases. After decreasing to a single digit (in December 2021) before increasing again to two digits and now triple digits, the number of infected cases reached more than 200 on Tuesday "In an audio message on Tuesday, he added.

"In order to maintain physical distance, I would want to appeal to the people to reduce meetings for drinking and eating, as well as for entertainment purposes," he continued.

"While Omicron is less severe than Alpha and Delta variants, if the number of infections continues to climb at an alarming rate, it will be a disaster." Hun Sen said the majority of the cases had been found in the capital, Phnom Penh, and urged people to strictly follow a three-dos-and-three-don'ts guideline, as well as seek immunizations or booster doses when their turn came, according to report.
