ISLAMABAD: Billionaire social activist Bill Gates held talks with Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on campaigning for eradication of polio in Pakistan. It is also being said that Gates held talks with the Pakistan Army Chief about the necessary support to ensure widespread access to the campaign against polio in the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic. Pakistan halted the campaign against polio in March and was resumed last month after a reduction in infection cases.

The Pakistan Army said on Saturday that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and the Chief of Army Staff discussed the necessary efforts to eradicate polio in the atmosphere of the Coronavirus epidemic. Gates praised the Pakistan Army for helping in the national polio campaign. On the other hand, 11 thousand employees associated with the polio eradication campaign lost their jobs. Due to which money is being strapped. Most of them are women working as health workers. These workers were also frontline warriors in dealing with the Covid-19 transition. Rana Muhammad Safdar, coordinator of the National Emergency Operation Center, said that the decision to reduce the number of health workers has been taken last year. PM's Special Health Advisor Zafar Mirza also indicated changes in polio eradication program.

Rana said that earlier amount were being paid monthly. Under the new system, now only ten days of work is being given in the month and payment has been made on every day. Polio is still in havoc in Pakistan. 64 cases have been reported this year.
