New Delhi: The new corona variant Omikron found in South Africa has sent the world into a panic once again. The spike protein area of the new omicron variety of corona has witnessed more than 30 changes, according to AIIMS Chief Dr Randeep Guleria, which might enable it acquire immune system evasion capabilities. That's why, he said, it could be able to avoid the variant vaccination.

The efficiency of the vaccination against omicron, according to the AIIMS Director, should be carefully investigated. It should be noted that the presence of spike protein facilitates the virus's entry into the nutrition cell and allows it to propagate and cause infection. According to Randeep Guleria, the novel corona variety has undergone more than 30 mutations in the spike protein region and is therefore likely to gain immune system escape capability.

Most vaccines work by producing antibodies against proteins, says AIIMS director, therefore numerous changes in the spike protein area can limit the corona vaccine's effectiveness. Future action, he said, will be determined by what is discovered about its ability to evade its spread, intensity, and immunity.
