Ottawa: The Canadian government has imposed additional sanctions against the oil, gas and chemical industries in Russia, according to the Canadian Foreign Ministry website.

Canada added 8 new industries to the list and "restricted the provision of two manufacturing services to the Russian oil, gas, chemical and manufacturing industries under the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations on July 14, 2022." further amended."

The Russian side is prohibited from providing a number of services, including fabricated metal goods, services relevant to the production of automotive, trailer, and semi-trailers, computers, electronic and optical products, electrical equipment, and other sectors.

Vladimir Proskuryakov, ministerial adviser at the Russian embassy in Canada told  that the sanctions were ineffective and would also have a negative impact on Canada.

“Another round of sanctions would in our opinion be completely pointless and ineffective. All economic sanctions are a double-edged sword and will undoubtedly have the opposite effect on Canada, as we have repeatedly warned, the diplomat said.

These measures were introduced by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie on Saturday. She said Canadian businesses will have 60 days after the measures take effect to finalize contracts with targeted products and services.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics by ordering the launch of a special military operation on 24 February.
He emphasized that Moscow's goals were the demilitarization and demilitarization of the nation, not the annexation of Ukrainian territory.

In retaliation, the West gradually began to impose severe sanctions against Moscow and provided Kyiv with billions of dollars in weapons and military hardware.

Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,150 individuals and organizations in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.
To prevent the Russians from taking advantage of the loophole, it coordinated sanctions with allies in the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom.
The latest round of sanctions against Russia, according to Global Affairs Canada, "targets state-sponsored propaganda and propaganda agents."
Jolie left a United Nations gathering in Geneva in March, along with a large number of other attendees, when Lavrov , which Canada approved days ago, began speaking Canada has also banned imports of specific gold from Russia, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last month at the G7 summit in Elmau, Germany.
