Canadian PM meets Ukraine president Zelensky in Kiev

In the midst of the Ukraine conflict, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid a visit to Kyiv and spoke with President Volodymyr Zelensky, pledging additional military aid to the country and increased penalties against Russia.

According to reports by  Xinhua, Canadian  PM  Trudeau stated in an official statement that Canada would provide Ukraine with extra military supplies worth 50-million Canadian dollar  (USD 40 million), including drone cameras, high-resolution satellite imagery, small guns, and ammunition.

Canada will also impose fresh sanctions on 40 Russian individuals and five businesses in relation with the Kremlin and Russia's defence sector, the Prime Minister said.

Trudeau said that the Canadian embassy in Kiev, which had been closed since February 12, would reopen. "Canada's defence help for Ukraine was reviewed in depth," Zelensky stated, according to the Ukrainian presidential press office.
According to Zelensky, talks with the Canadian side are underway to remove trade obstacles for Ukrainian exporters and abolish the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.
