Thailand:

Since the cannabis plant was now removed from the banned drugs list, production of cannabis products has skyrocketed in Southeast Asia. Marijuana legalization in Thailand by Thursday is a dream come true for past smokers

The idea that Thailand is developing into a marijuana paradise is strengthened by a plan by the public health minister to distribute 1 million marijuana seedlings.

Thailand is the first country in Asia to decriminalize marijuana for medical and industrial use as a result of the Food and Drug Administration's decision to declassify the entire plant as narcotic. However, this does not follow the lead of Uruguay and Canada, which to date are the only two nations to have legalized marijuana for recreational use nationally.

Other than registering to do so and saying it's for medical purposes, it currently appears there will be no effort to police what people are allowed to grow and smoke at home.

supporters in Thailand bought marijuana from a cafe that previously only offered items made from parts of the plant that are not intoxicating. The Highland Café offered a variety of buds with names such as sugarcane, bubblegum, purple afghani and UFOs for about a dozen visitors who arrived early.

The Thai government has issued a warning to those who want to smoke for fun. stating that doing so may still be considered a nuisance and could result in a prison sentence of 3 months and a fine of 25,000 baht ($780) may be fined.  Marijuana extracts, like the oil, are still prohibited if they contain more than 0.2 percent of the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

According to Professor Sarna Somano of the Department of Plant and Soil Science at Chiang Mai University, visitors should exercise caution until guidelines become clear after a new cannabis law is passed. Thousands of small-scale farmers have so far registered to grow cannabis legally, and many more are believed to be experimenting with unregistered home farms. If the law is left liberal, experts predict the Thai cannabis market could soon be worth several billions of dollars a year.

Owners of factories that produce high-grade CBD oil, large corporations that have purchased land for plantations, and wellness resorts that expect to receive treatment-seeking travelers from around the world are expected to absorb most of them.
