PUNJAB: Capt. Amarinder Singh, the former chief minister of Punjab, is expected to combine his party, the Punjab Lok Congress, with the BJP after he returns from London, where he is recuperating from spinal surgery.

Even though the party has not spoken, prominent Punjab BJP leader Harjit Singh Grewal asserted on Saturday that a decision in this regard has been reached.

Grewal stated that Singh informed the BJP of his plan to combine his party with BJP before leaving for London, and that the former chief minister will make the announcement when he returns.

Singh, a two-time chief minister and a descendant of the former Patiala Royal dynasty, registered the PLC after leaving the Congress following his abrupt resignation as chief minister last year.

In an alliance with the BJP and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyuk), the PLC ran candidates for the state assembly in 2022.

However, none of the PLC candidates were successful, and Amarinder himself came in last for the Patiala Urban seat, his home district.
