Amritsar: Congress leader and former cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday took over as the president of the party's Punjab unit in the presence of CM Amarinder Singh, ending the "leadership crisis" in the state. Shortly before the incident, former party president Rahul Gandhi said that the Punjab dispute has been resolved.
Punjab Chief Ministers Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu met at tea in Chandigarh today. Explaining his relationship with MLA Sidhu from Amritsar (East), CM Amarinder, who has served in the Indian Army, said 'I was fighting on the border when Sidhu was born.' On the other hand, after assuming office at the state Congress headquarters, Sidhu said there is no difference between a general party worker and the president of its state unit.
Sidhu said, "There is no difference between a general party worker and a state unit president. In Punjab, every Congress worker has become the president of the party's state unit from today." During the event, CM Amarinder also put a full stop to the ongoing tussle in the Punjab Congress. Amarinder said, "We have to strengthen the Congress party in Punjab. I am telling everybody from this level that we have to support Sidhu and work together for Punjab."
