Amritsar: Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh is going to merge his party Punjab Lok Congress with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Quoting sources, it has come to light that Captain Amarinder Singh has gone abroad for treatment and a formal announcement of the merger will be made after his return.

Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as the CM of Punjab in September 2021. After this, he also left the Congress party. He had said that the way the Congress party and Congress leaders treated him was not right. About a month later, in October, he announced the new party. Amarinder Singh had contested the assembly elections in alliance with the BJP after forming a party under the name of Punjab Lok Congress (PLC).

Captain Amarinder Singh's party was allotted the 'hockey stick and ball' symbol by the Election Commission. The PLC Congress had fielded candidates in 37 seats in the assembly elections. Captain Amarinder Singh himself had contested from Patiala city but had to face defeat. Ajitpal Singh Kohli of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) defeated Amarinder Singh by 13,000 votes.
