Lone survivor of chopper crash Group Captain Varun Singh passes away

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force today said that the captain succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Earlier, the Air Force had informed that Singh's condition remains critical and he is undergoing treatment. Varun Singh was undergoing treatment at the command hospital in Bengaluru where he was put on life support system.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other military officers lost their lives in the helicopter crash, one of the worst accidents in the country's history. Only Group Captain Varun Singh survived, but he was also seriously injured. There were constant prayers for his health and life all over the country.

Earlier on Saturday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had spoken to Varun Singh's father Colonel (Retd) KP Singh. He was brought to the Air Force Command Hospital in Bengaluru from The Army Hospital in Wellington last Thursday. Group Captain Varun Singh was recently awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind for his extraordinary courage.
