Lucknow: The case of alleged assault on voters during the Rampur by-election has reached the Supreme Court. Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud has said that this is a serious issue. CJI Chandrachud has asked the counsel for the petitioner to mention the matter on Thursday. A lawyer has told the CJI that during the by-election in Rampur, the police used force to prevent people from voting.

The lawyer said that he is a voter of that place only, there was violence in the by-election, and no action has been taken on it. The lawyer said that the police did not allow thousands of people to vote, they thrashed those who voted, I was also present on the spot. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party (SP) demanded an inquiry by taking cognizance of this from all the constitutional institutions of the country, including the Election Commission, accusing the police administration of slaughtering democracy by preventing voters from voting in the Rampur assembly by-election.

SP's chief whip in the state assembly, Manoj Pandey, while accusing the party's state headquarters in a press conference, said that the government culminated in the Rampur assembly by-election held on Tuesday. The manner in which voters of a particular religion and class were forcibly prevented from voting with the help of the police, is tantamount to the slaying of democracy. He said that we appeal to all the constitutional institutions including the Election Commission to conduct an inquiry taking suo motu cognizance of the excesses that happened during the Rampur by-election, because this matter is not of any person, but of protecting democracy.
