Chennai: Tamil Nadu Police has registered a case against Arumanai Stephen, secretary and Christian pastor of the Arumanai Christian Association (ACA), for gang-raping and recording a married woman. A case has also been registered against the priest along with seven others involved in the crime.

Pastor Stephen has earlier been arrested for organizing an event in Kanyakumari, where controversial Catholic priest George Ponnaiya had made controversial remarks against Hindus and abused Hindu gods and goddesses. According to reports, a 36-year-old woman from Viennur in Tiruvottiyur district has registered a case against Arumanai Stephen and 7 other associates. In the complaint, the woman said that the accused gang-raped her after drugging her and also recorded the act. The woman alleged that she was taken to the farmhouse where she was raped several times.

The victim had also lodged a complaint in April but the action was not taken at that time due to the relationship with the DMK of the accused. An accused Jefferson had then committed suicide for fear of the police. When Stephen was arrested in connection with the inflammatory speech, the victim came forward and once again lodged a complaint against Stephen. Police have registered a case under various sections of IPC against Stephen, DMK members John Bright, Henslin, Jebraj, and other accused.
