Mumbai: Amagistrate's court in Mumbai has sentenced a youth to one year in jail. The young man's crime is that he grabbed his girlfriend's hand and pulled her towards him. Considering it to be a mess with the dignity of the young woman, the court has sentenced her. The case dates back to 2014. The youth's lawyer had argued in the court that he (the youth) was now married and had a two-year-old son. However, the court rejected this argument.
The court said that being a former lover of someone does not allow that anyone is treated with him. According to the report, Metropolitan Magistrate Kranti M. Pingle, while hearing the case, also refused to release the youth on the ground of good behaviour under the Probation of Offender Act. The judge cited a high court judgment, the one who commits this type of crime should not be left on probation. The reason is that, this matter is related to the honour of a woman. According to it, the release of the youth in this manner will further lead to such crimes. At the same time, it will also be difficult to stop all such crimes or catch the culprits, which will also make it difficult to stop other crimes against women.
Let me tell you that the accused in this case was the neighbour of the girl. He pleaded for his acquittal on the ground that the incident dates back to 2014 and that several years have passed. The young man says he is now married and has a two-year-old child. On this, the court said that in view of the present situation of the youth, his sentence can be reduced. But for the crime he has committed, some punishment has to be given. A fine of Rs 5,000 has also been imposed on the youth. Along with the girl, her father and uncle also testified in the court in this case. The girl told the court that the incident took place on september 20, 2014 on the stairs of her house. An FIR was lodged in the case. The accused youth was arrested and later released on bail.
