CBI heat up VVIP chopper scam to arrest middleman

New Delhi: Agusta Westland VVIP choppers contract has cleared that Indian officials were paid huge bribes in the 3,600 crore amid the UPA regime,the CBI has hiked the temperature on middle Christian Michel, the key link who influenced politicians and officials in Italy and India.

The agency has asked Interpol to arrest Michel, who lives in the UK, on the root of a red corner observe issued adjacent to him on January 4 so that a formal extradition demand can be sent.

Michel sent a major chunk of the bribe money - 30 million euros (over Rs 220 crore) to India allegedly for ex-IAF chief S P Tyagi, his cousins and others.

CBI said, “they had finished the India leg of the probe and would soon file a chargesheet naming Indian officials”

An officer said, "The money trail, which has to be established on the basis of information from the UAE, Singapore, Switzerland, Mauritius and others, is still under probe but we are done with our side of the probe and will take a call on filing a chargesheet very soon,"

He added that, “ Italy shared the documents last year while British Virgin Islands, Tunisia and the UK also gave some details”
