Srinagar: A big news item is coming out of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted raids on the hideouts of Basir Ahmed Khan, an advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Former advisor Basir Khan is accused of being involved in a fake gun licence racket. The agency has raided 40 locations in this connection. These hideouts also include the residence of Basir at Bagh Bagat. Jammu and Kashmir police were also present along with CBI in the raid.

CBI had learnt that Basir Khan was also involved in the fake licence sharing racket. The agency then reported the matter to the Union Home Ministry. Following this information, the Ministry removed him from the post of Advisor last week. This was followed by reports of former IAS officer Shah Faisal being appointed as advisor. However, the news was later denied by a government source.

Basir Khan was an advisor to the present Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and was also an advisor to former Lieutenant Governor of the state Girish Chandra Murmu. On the other hand, as soon as the approval of the Home Ministry was received, the CBI launched raids on the hideouts of the promoted IAS officer Khan. The agency has conducted raids at 40 places in the valley besides him in New Delhi and other parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh.
