Ranchi: Hearing on bail plea of RJD supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the embezzlement case from Chaibasa treasury has been postponed to 9 October. Because he has not yet spent half of his sentence in the case in judicial custody.

During the debate on Lalu Prasad's bail plea before the bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lawyer objected. He said that in this case of embezzlement from Chaibasa treasury, Lalu was sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment, but Lalu has not yet completed half the sentence. He said that in view of this fact, the hearing on his bail petition is not valid. The CBI said that Lalu Yadav has made the main basis for bail in this case of embezzlement of 33 crores, 67 lakh rupees related to Chaibasa treasury, that he sentenced 5 years of imprisonment given by the special CBI court. He has not spent half the time in judicial custody.

The CBI said in the court that Lalu Yadav still has 23 days left to complete half the term of the sentence in this case. After this, the court deferred the hearing of the case till 9 October.
