Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday (May 9) has approved the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute top Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in the Narada sting tape case. Raj Bhavan said, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has allowed CBI to prosecute Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and Shovan Chatterjee in a scam.

The order comes after CBI requested permission to conduct an inquiry against four TMC leaders who served as ministers in Mamata Banerjee's government in West Bengal. In a press release, Raj Bhavan has said, "Hon'ble Governor is the competent authority to give approval in terms of law as they are the appointing authority for such Ministers under Article 164 of the Constitution". The statement said that Governor Dhankhar has given permission to prosecute four leaders and this was done after the CBI made such an request and provided complete documents relating to the matter to the Hon'ble Governor, and as competent officer to give such approval, he exercised his powers under Articles 163 and 164 of the Constitution.

CBI will now initiate action against Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and Shovan Chatterjee. All of them were ministers in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet when narada sting tapes were allegedly made in 2014.
