CBI to probe 'Birbhum violence', Kolkata HC orders shocking revelations in forensic report

Kolkata: The Birbhum violence and arson case will now be probed by the CBI. The Calcutta High Court has issued an order in this regard. Violence broke out in Rampurhat in Birbhum district after the killing of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader. Many houses were set on fire. Eight people, including two children, were killed in the fire. There were also three women involved. So far, 20 people have been arrested in the case.

The Kolkata High Court had also taken suo moto cognizance of the Birbhum violence and held a hearing. The high court had earlier rejected the plea for a CBI probe and said the first chance of investigation should be given to the state. The case of violence in Birbhum in West Bengal has also reached the Supreme Court. Public interest litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court. The petition has sought an inquiry by constituting an SIT headed by a retired judge of the apex court.

The petition said that the matter should be investigated by the SIT or the CBI. The petition was filed by Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta. On the other hand, in the Case of Birbhum violence, the forensic report has made a shocking claim. According to the report, the dead were badly beaten before they were burnt alive. The dead included young children and women.
