The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) asked Tamil Nadu’s opinion on the reopening of its institutions in the State so that students could finish the syllabus before annual exams. The move was taken after a decision to conduct board exams for Classes 10 and 12 was taken. The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) schools, have also made an enquiry about the State’s preparations to start the academic session for its schools to go with the Class 10 and 12 board exams.
There are more than 600 private schools and 100 CISCE institutions spread across Tamil Nadu. A senior official from the School Education Department told a news agency that CBSE authorities have already approached education officers about the school reopening, because few other states have already begun classes. “CISCE also sent a circular to the State government seeking a report on beginning of classes,” he added. As the CBSE and CISCE exams were common all over India, both the Centre-based education governing bodies were keen on opening the schools so that Tamil Nadu students won't suffer.
“Authorities here were closely monitoring the pandemic situation, to also consider opening State institutions for Classes 10, 11 and 12 so that students can appear for board exams,” he added. The official said, “Apart from health experts, opinion and feedback will once again be collected from the parents and teachers.” The General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, Matriculation, Higher Secondary, and CBSE Schools, KR Nandhakumar, said, “All institutions were ready to adopt the SOPs so the government should allow the institutions to start functioning, especially for students appearing for the board exams.”
