New Delhi: The CBSE has given a big relief to Students of SCs and STs in Delhi. The Board had in the past hiked the examination fees of SC and ST students. The hike was made for the 10th and 12th Board examinations. The Board has increased the number of students in Delhi from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects for 10th and 12th General class students last week. The fee for SC and ST students in Delhi was increased to Rs 1200.
After criticising the CBSE's decision, the CBSE issued a fresh order giving them relief. The Board said that SC and ST students in Delhi will pay only 50 rupees as before and the rest will be given by the Delhi government. Board Secretary Anurag Tripathi said that a decision was taken to provide relief to SC and ST community students on the directions of the HRD Ministry. The CBSE attributed the fee hike to the loss in conducting board examinations for classes 10th and 12th.
According to the CBSE, there is a loss of over Rs 200 crore in conducting board examinations. The CBSE had last week announced an increase in examination fees for 10th and 12th classes, registration fee for classes IX and XI, etc. According to board secretary Tripathi, the CBSE spends about Rs 500 crore annually on conducting exams for classes 10 and 12. So, we have no option but to increase the fee.
