On Tuesday, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Kumar Agarwal spoke to Agriculture Minister Singi Reddy Niranjan Reddy. He assured Reddy that the corporation would buy the amount of cotton produced in Telangana at a minimum support price of Rs 5,825 per quintal.

The minister is on a four-day official visit to Maharashtra. For now he called Agarwal and explained about the production of cotton in the state in the current forest season. Reddy asked the CCI to increase the moisture in cotton considering the recent heavy rains in the state. Currently, CCI allows only 12 per cent moisture in cotton fiber. CCI collected and stored 49.56 lakh bales of cotton from Telangana in 2019-20, and so far only 9.28 lakh bales have been lifted. We urge CCI to immediately lift the old stock to store the products of the current year," he said.

He impressed CCI that Telangana is famous for high quality cotton and that the software developed by the state for fiber crop collection is a kind of software in the country.
