Mumbai: Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in all schools to control cases of sexual harassment. School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad told the Legislative Council that there are about 65,000 schools in the state, including those run by the state, funded, private and affiliated to all the education boards.
Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, "All these schools should install CCTV cameras so that sexual harassment in schools can be curbed.'' The Education Minister said that we will make it mandatory for schools to install CCTV cameras with hard drives. At the same time, assistance will also be provided in this work so that the footage of the day-to-day activities can be recorded and if required for investigation can be made available.
He also said that schools will have to form the 'Sakhi Savitri' committee. Which includes principals, female teachers, doctors, Anganwadi workers, male and female students to maintain the dignity of the school. Varsha Gaikwad said that if required, the principal, women teachers should also conduct an inquiry. She said that the names of the members of the committee that is formed should be prominently displayed in the schools. Gaikwad said the school education commissioner will oversee the functioning of these committees.
