New Delhi: Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has started the process of setting up the country's first integrated tri-service command. According to highly placed sources related to defense, this work will be completed by the month of June this year. An officer of the rank of Air Marshal in the Air Force will be made its chief.

According to sources, CDS General Vipin Rawat has started discussions with Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narwane and Air Force Cheif RKS Bhadauria. The source has said that General Rawat is busy in determining the structure of the Integrated Air Defense Command. The Department of Military Affairs has been ordered to prepare the Joint Military Command. It has also asked to create a war zone command, which will be a huge reorganization involving the 3 armies.

Sources said that no additional general rank post would be created to lead a war zone command or other unified commands. Officers of the rank of lieutenant general of the 3 armies will be made its chief. Each service has its own air defense system. Air Defense Command will integrate the assets of Air Defense, Army, Airforce, and Navy and jointly provide air security to the country. Whatever experience gained from Balakot and other operations has also been included in the preparation of the Air Defense Command.
