Chennai: An Army MI-17 helicopter met with an accident in Kannur, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat was also on board the helicopter.  Where it has been found that 4 officers have lost their lives in the accident. Their names are yet to come up.

The visuals of the accident have revealed that the helicopter appears to be completely damaged and is on fire. Nothing has been officially spoken about the situation of General Bipin Rawat. His wife was also riding in this helicopter. General Bipin Rawat served as Army Chief from 31 December 2016 to 31 December 2019. He took over as Chief of Defence Staff on January 1, 2020.

2 bodies recovered, and more bodies are seen below the hill: where media have reported that the helicopter slipped from Sulur airbase to Wellington. It was carrying 14 senior officers. A team of doctors sent for the rescue and treatment. Army officials are also present at the spot. 2 bodies have been recovered, which is 80% burnt. Efforts are being made to identify them. Some more bodies are visible below the hill.

It is learnt that CDS Bipin Rawat has been taken to the hospital for treatment.  PM Modi was briefed by Defence Minister RajnathSingh.
