NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar began the Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2023 nationally from Pune through a number of voter education initiatives.

Pune's high levels of urban indifference and low rates of youthful voter engagement prompted the Election Commission to take part in a voter awareness cycle rally there in order to inspire and mobilise the youth and the general public to actively participate in the electoral process.

To raise awareness and encourage involvement from all stakeholders during the Special Summary Revision process, officials said that such awareness initiatives are being organised at a vast scale by concerned Chief Electoral Officers in various states throughout the nation.

CEC Rajiv Kumar urged citizens in urban areas to take part in the election, register to vote, and cast their ballots. According to him, there is potential to increase voter turnout in metropolitan regions. This, he claimed, is the rationale behind the national launch of SSR 2023 from Pune.
Even though Summary Revision occurs every year, the Election Commission is beginning a far more concentrated effort nationwide from Pune this year to raise voter turnout. He continued, "Some cities don't actually practise that kind of voting, and there is a lot of terrain we have to cover in metropolitan areas, so this cycle rally was organised to raise awareness."
The CEC stated, "Every single individual becomes registered as a voter and strengthens the democracy by not only getting registered but also casting his or her vote, wherever in the country, every farthest possible states, be it hills, coastline lines, impassable terrains, or deserts.

Additionally, he stated that more than 2.49 lakh voters in India are in the 100+A age bracket. When he spoke with them and learned that they had been voting their entire lives, he remarked, "What a relief and ecstasy it offers."
The CEC paid respects to Late Shri Shyam Saran Negi, the nation's first voter, who just died away at the age of 106 "Three days prior to his passing, he did cast his ballot via mail. That spirit is this ".

The CEC and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra took part in a cycling rally in Pune with the theme "Pedal For Participative Elections" to kick off the day's events.

Voters from a variety of social groups, including transgender people, people with disabilities, women, young people, and others, started the march.
