New Delhi: The Animal Welfare Board of India issued notice to observe "Cow Hug Day" on Valentine's Day (February 14) in order to spread "good energy" and promote "collective happiness”.

Valentine's Day is observed annually on February 14. The notification published by the board under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying stated that "all cow lovers may observe February 14 as Cow Hug Day while remembering the significance of mother cow and the value of making life happy and full of positive energy."

The government advisory council stated that because of the "advance of West culture," Vedic traditions are practically "on the edge of extinction," and the "dazzle of western civilisation has rendered our physical culture and history almost forgotten," according to news agency.

Indian culture and rural economy are based on the cow: The advisory board called cow the “backbone of Indian culture and rural economy.”It also said that the animal represent “cattle wealth and biodiversity.”

According to the advisory board, cows are the "backbone of Indian culture and rural economy," and they also symbolise "cattle richness and biodiversity. It is known as "Kamdhenu" and "Gaumata" because of its feeding character like mother, the giver of all who provides wealth to humanity.

The appeal was issued with the approval of a “competent authority” and “on the direction of the Union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying”, board officials mentioned.

The world's mother is the cow: Dharampal Singh, the minister for animal husbandry in the state of Uttar Pradesh, also asked people to observe "Cow Hug Day" on February 14 rather than Valentine's Day.

The only animal in the world whose pee and dung may be used as medicine is the cow, who is referred to be the "mother of the world." On February 14, instead of celebrating Valentine's Day, people should observe Cow Hug Day because many diseases can be cured with just a touch, the minister said.

Indian Animal Welfare Board:  The Board, which was created in 1962 in compliance with Section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960, grants money to groups that advance animal welfare and provides advice to the Center on relevant issues. But it did so for the first time with this appeal.
