New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the Central Vista Project's plea for amendment in land use on November 16. The apex court on Friday adjourned the hearing to November 16 on a petition challenging changes in the use of the plot, which has been scheduled for the new official residences of the Vice President and the Prime Minister under the ambitious Central Vista Project in Lutyens Delhi.

A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar was told that the central government has filed an affidavit responding to the petition after which the court adjourned the hearing of the case. The court said, 'We have been informed that a counter affidavit has been filed online. A copy of the answer will be placed in the file. The petitioner is given time as per his request to file a reply. The case is listed for November 16.'

The Central Vista Redevelopment Project announced in September 2019, envisages a new triangular Parliament House with a meeting capacity of 900 to 1,200 MPs. It is scheduled to be built by August 2022, when the country celebrates its 75th Independence Day. The project, covering a distance of three km from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate in Delhi, is to construct a common Central Secretariat by 2024. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition challenging the conversion of land use of plot number one from the entertainment sector to a residential area.
