New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has directed the Revenue Intelligence Directorate Customs Department to ensure that they deal with those who commit economic offences strictly. On the occasion of the 63rd Foundation Day of the DRI, which comes under the Central Board of Indirect Tax Customs (CBIC), she congratulated the officers for their meritorious service, especially during the corona.
According to the official statement, the Finance Minister encouraged DRI officials to continue their work with promptness and directed the DRI and the Customs Department to ensure that they decide the accountability of those committing economic offences and deal with them strictly. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also released the 'Smuggling Report in India 2019-20' on this occasion, in which smuggling of gold, foreign currency, narcotics, trend of commercial fraud etc. has been studied.
Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey said that the DRI has actively contributed to the economy by exposing some cases of cross-border smuggling commercial fraud. He emphasized the need to share data/information between the agencies analyzing the data for effective implementation of the law.
