Centre introduces bill to abolish 58 outdated laws in Parliament

NEW DELHI: The central government on Thursday introduced a bill to abolish 58 outdated laws in Parliament. Presenting it in the Lok Sabha, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that this law creates inconvenience and hardships for the people and hence the government wants to eliminate them. On the other hand, the opposition accused the government of rushing to pass the bill without discussion.

On the opposition charge, Prasad said, the government had given notice two days ago. Anyway, as the Bill has been introduced, the Members can discuss it. Prasad told the House that the Modi government has already scrapped 1458 old Acts, now plans to abolish 58 more laws. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said, "The Bill was discussed in the BAC meeting and members of all major parties were present.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that he will take care in the next session to see that members get two days to study before the bill is introduced. He said there is a need to abolish the laws of the British period. On this, some Members said, "The Indian Code of Justice itself is of the British period.
