New Delhi: The Third Advance Estimate for the year 2020-21 for the area and production of various horticulture crops has been released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that due to the skilled leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji, the government's pro-farmer policies, hard work of farmers and research by scientists are estimated to record horticulture production at 331.05 million tonnes in 2020-21, reflecting an increase of 10.6 million tonnes (3.3 per cent) over 2019-20.

Narendra Singh Tomar said that as per the third advance estimate of the area and production of horticulture crops, the production of fruits in 2020-21 is estimated at 103 million tonnes as against 102.1 million tonnes in 2019-20. On the other hand, the production of vegetables is projected to increase to 197.2 million tonnes, or 4.8 per cent, as compared to 188.3 million tonnes last year. Onion production is estimated at 26.8 million tonnes as compared to 26.1 million tonnes received in 2019-20. On the other hand, potato production in 2020-21 is estimated at a record 54.2 million tonnes, which is 5.6 million tonnes higher than in 2019-20.

Tomar further said that tomato production is estimated at 21.1 million tonnes as compared to 20.6 million tonnes received in 2019-20.
