New Delhi: The appointment of Saurabh Kirpal, son of senior advocate and former Supreme Court Chief Justice BN Kirpal, as a Judge of the Delhi High Court is now under discussion. The apex court had asked for the central government's opinion in the case. Saurabh Kirpal has declared himself gay. Their partners are foreigners. So there are many hurdles in his appointment as a judge of the Delhi High Court.

The collegium of the apex court had asked the central government for its opinion on the appointment. After which the Central Government has given its opinion on the proposed appointment of senior advocate Saurabh Kirpal. According to sources, the country's Chief Justice SA Bobde has got the Centre's opinion. According to sources, the Centre has expressed apprehensions in its opinion. Saurabh Kirpal declares himself gay and his parents are foreigners. According to sources, the Centre has said it could pose a threat to national security.

The apex court had sought its opinion on the proposed appointment from the Centre within four weeks. After receiving the opinion from the Central Government, it is now up to the collegium appointing judges to decide whether it officially recommends Saurabh Kirpal's name or not.
