Central government's affidavit in Supreme Court said - OTT is monitoring the content

New Delhi: The Central government has filed an affidavit in the country's largest court saying it is monitoring the content of the OTT platform. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said in the Apex Court that as per the new rules, the content of OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime is being monitored.

The ministry further said that they had received a number of complaints about the OTT platform, including MP/MLA, intellectuals. After focusing on those complaints, a new rule for monitoring the content of the OTT platform was brought to the Information Technology Rules, 2021.

As per the information furnished by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, sections 67,67A and 67B provide that the Government may restrict objectionable content. In fact, petitioner Shashank Shekhar Jha had filed a petition in the Apex Court seeking to regulate the content of the OTT platform.
