New Delhi: Taking a big decision, the Modi government at the Center has now announced to give the benefit of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme to transgenders. In fact, on Wednesday (August 24), an agreement (MoU) was signed between the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This will benefit lakhs of registered transgenders in the country.
Now transgenders will be given health insurance of Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). According to the agreement, the amount of expenditure on health insurance of transgenders will be borne by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Meanwhile, Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, R. Subrahmanyam and National Health Authority Executive Officer RS Sharma signed the MoU.
Speaking on the occasion, Mandaviya said that the MoU will work to provide all health benefits to all transgender persons holding transgender certificates issued by the National Portal for Transgender Persons across the country. Union Minister Virendra Kumar said that this joint initiative is the first of its kind in the country and it will not only provide a new direction to our society. Let us know that by joining the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, 4 have been registered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in the country at present. Proper health facilities will be available to 80 lakh transgenders. According to the Health Minister, now the list of all these transgenders has been included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
