New Delhi: The ITR filing deadline now has only 10 days left for counting. More than half of taxpayers have not filed their income tax returns. People are hopeful that like every year, the government will extend the deadline this year as well. However, now there is a clarification from the government in this regard. The government has made it clear that they are not considering extending the last date for filing income tax returns this time.

The last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2021-22 (FY22) i.e. the Assessment Year 2022-23 (AY23) has been declared as July 31. According to media reports, the government is not going to extend the deadline beyond this. PTI has reported this news quoting the Revenue Secretary. According to PTI, the revenue secretary said the government is not considering extending the deadline for filing income tax returns beyond July 31.

According to the Income Tax Department, more than 2 crore people have filed returns so far. By the deadline, about 7 crore people have to file the ITR by July 31. Now that the government has made it clear that the deadline is unlikely to be extended. In such a situation, if the remaining 4.5 crore people will file returns in the last 10 days, then there is a possibility of a problem in the return filing portal. To avoid these problems, it is necessary to file an income tax return quickly. If the deadline is not extended, you may have to pay a penalty for filing returns after July 31.
