New Delhi: Ahead of August 15, the Central government has issued special instructions to states on the national flag. The Centre has asked the state governments to ensure that people do not use the national flag of plastic. Ahead of Independence Day, the Union Home Ministry has sent a letter in this regard to all states and Union Territories.

The letter says that the Tricolour represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of the country, so it should be fully respected. The government says proper disposal of tricolour made of plastic is a practical problem. The Home Ministry has told the states that on several occasions such as national, cultural, and sports events, a national flag made of plastic is being used instead of a paper tricolour. It has also been said that there is a practical difficulty in proper disposal of the tricolour made of plastic in accordance with the dignity of the national flag.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked to ensure that such events should use only a national flag made of paper as per the provisions of the Indian Flag Code, 2002. At the same time, special care should be taken that the national flag should not be thrown to the ground after the program. Everyone has affection and loyalty to the national flag, yet there is a lack of awareness about the laws and traditions that apply to the display of the tricolour.
