New Delhi: In view of the growing outbreak of "Black Fungus" (Black Fungus) or Mucomycosis amid the Covid epidemic, the Central government on Thursday directed all states to declare "Black Fungus" as an epidemic. The Health Ministry has asked states to register black fungus under the "Epidemic Diseases Act" under the Rare but Potentially Deadly Infection. Black fungus cases have been reported among those who have recovered from corona in the country in recent times.

This means that all confirmed or suspected cases of black fungus (the condition seen in recovering patients of covid) have to be reported to the Health Ministry. In a letter to the states, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Luv Agarwal said, "All government and private health facilities and medical colleges will have to follow guidelines for testing, diagnosis, management of mucomycosis. ”

Two more states telangana and Tamil Nadu also declared the disease an epidemic on Thursday (May 20th) after rajasthan declared black fungus as an epidemic on Wednesday (May 19). The first suspected death due to black fungus is reported in Tamil Nadu. A 57-year-old man suffering from corona in Thutukudi district is likely to die of black fungus in a government hospital.
