In line with Seventh Pay Commission Matrix,  nearly 52 lakh central government employees had a piece of good news last month when the Narendra Modi government made it clear that central government servants (CGS) will be soon given full Dearness Allowance (DA) benefit.

The Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur made the announcement in this regard in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said that central government employees will be given full DA benefits from 1st July 2021.

As a result, central government employees have been looking forward to receiving the Dearness Allowance (DA), which has been pending since January 2021. The government had halted three installments of DA and for central government employees and DR (Dearness Relief) for pensioners due on January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision allowed the government to save Rs 37,430.08 crore and let them cope with the catastrophe.

As announced by Anurag Thakur, from 1st July 2021, the effective DA for the central government employees may jump from the existing 17 percent to 28 percent.  Once the DA gets restored, it will bring cheer to the faces of around 60 lakh retired central government pensioners too.
