New Delhi: The Central government on Monday made a big statement in the Supreme Court. The central government said it has decided to reconsider the provisions of the sedition law and investigate. The government has appealed to the Supreme Court not to hear the matter until the government conducts a thorough inquiry. In an affidavit filed in the apex court, the Central government has said that the validity of Section 124A of the IPC on sedition will be examined and reconsidered.

In an affidavit filed in the apex court, the government has said that in the view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when the country completes 75 years of independence, there is a need to reconsider the law of sedition enacted during the time of slavery. It said, "The Government of India has knowledge of the objections expressed to the sedition law. Many times questions are also raised about human rights. However, the aim should be to keep the sovereignty and integrity of the country intact.''

The affidavit further said that the time has come to reconsider the provisions of Section 124A of the IPC. The Centre said that during the process of investigation, the Supreme Court has been requested not to waste time in examining the validity of the act. Many petitions were filed in the top court to investigate the laws made in the colonial period. The government has filed a reply to this in the apex court.
