Kolkata: The Central Government has taken serious note of the incidents of violence following the results of assembly elections in West Bengal. Earlier, in a strong tone, the Union Home Ministry has asked the Mamata government to submit a detailed report on the Bengal violence and now the Centre has also constituted a team to look into it. According to media reports, the Union Home Ministry has constituted a four-member team to look into the causes of the alleged post-poll violence in West Bengal and take stock of the ground situation in the state.

Officials said on Thursday that the team led by an additional secretary of the ministry has left for West Bengal. Earlier, the Union Home Ministry had on Wednesday categorically told the West Bengal government that the matter would be taken seriously in case the state government did not send a report. According to officials, the state government has also been asked to take steps to prevent such incidents without losing time. In Bengal, six people have lost their lives in violence so far.

In a reminder sent on Wednesday, the Home Ministry told the Chief Secretary of West Bengal that an instant report was called on the violence that erupted after the elections in the state on May 3. Officials said the Bengal government has not sent the report so far. The letter said that as per the latest information, incidents of violence in West Bengal have not stopped and this means that the State Government has not taken effective steps to control them.
