New Delhi: The government is likely to provide security to the judiciary that sentenced terrorist Yasin Malik in a terror funding case. Officials said that this security will be based on threat assessment. Earlier, special judge SN Dhingra, who awarded the death sentence to Parliament attack terrorist Afzal Guru in 2002, was also given high security.

According to media reports, the government is expected to provide tight security to National Investigation Agency (NIA) judge Praveen Singh. The Patiala House Court had on Wednesday announced the life sentence for Malik. It is reported that the senior judge will also monitor a large number of cases being investigated by the NIA under the UAPA. Earlier in Kashmir, the terrorists had shot and killed sessions judge Neelkanth Ganju. Ganju had sentenced Yasin-led Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Maqbool Bhatt to death. However, both Guru and Bhatt were later hanged.

Interestingly, the trial against separatist leaders in the Kashmir Valley is going on. In such a situation, the eyes of the security agencies are on Masarat Alam who is in jail. It is reported that Alam has been entrusted with the responsibility of rebuilding the Hurriyat Conference in the Valley. Due to the spurt in terror in Jammu and Kashmir, many things are being considered including the delimitation process. However, an official said security forces have killed 80 local and foreign terrorists so far this year as compared to "54 on May 25 last year".
