New Delhi: The case of major security lapses during PM Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab yesterday is gaining momentum. The tussle between the Centre and the state government over PM Modi's security issue continues to escalate. The Central government has now issued letters to the Punjab Police on security, alerting Punjab among the Security Agencies at the Centre.
The Centre had already sent a letter to all senior Punjab police officials regarding security arrangements. The Centre had also sounded an alert over the farmers' gathering. Through this letter, strict instructions were issued to all police personnel to maintain traffic as per requirement. The letter was written during PM Modi's visit to Punjab directing alternative traffic arrangements already on farmers' agitation and road blockages.
The alert letter sent by the Centre gave written instructions to the SSP to take stock of the security situation. Not only that, a large number of police forces were asked to be deployed for security so that if the road is blocked by a group, it can be opened immediately. The letter issued by the Centre also directed to earmark alternative routes for movement VVIP by road due to rain. The letter was issued by law and order ADGP Punjab Police based on inputs. Higher authorities had already been briefed through the letter. But even then the Punjab Police neither provided an alternative route nor took any steps to open the jam.
