New Delhi: Bad news has emerged for warriors fighting the global epidemic coronavirus. The central government has withdrawn an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh for health workers. Under the insurance scheme, families of healthcare workers get money when corona dies on duty. In a circular sent last month, the Union Health Ministry informed the states about the abolition of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.

However, the time for the expiry of the Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme is April 24, meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has said that the new insurance company is still being spoken to get them a new insurance cover. According to the ministry, healthcare workers will be able to settle claims from the old insurance company by April 24 under the poor welfare package. A new insurance company will then provide insurance cover for health workers. Last month, the Health Ministry circular reported that insurance cover expired on March 24 and only 287 claims have been paid so far.

The Prime Minister's Poor Welfare Package for workers fighting on the coronavirus front was announced in March last year. Initially, the period of the first insurance scheme was implemented for 90 days but was later extended to one year. The aim was to provide financial security to the families of healthcare workers. Healthcare workers get 5million insurance cover when they die on corona duty.
