New Delhi: The Central government has came into action over expensive edible oil during the festive season. The Central government has stated that it is monitoring the price of cooking oils due to increase in demand during the festive season and will hold a virtual meeting with states on October 25 to review the action taken on its stock holding limit order.

State that on October 10 the Central Government had imposed stock limits on edible oils and oilseeds traders till March 31, except for some importers and exporters, to control domestic prices and provide relief to consumers. The State Governments and Union Territories had to fix the limit of stock levied on edible oils and oilseeds keeping in view the stock and consumption pattern of that particular State or Union Territory. According to an official statement, the Department of Food and Public Distribution on October 25, 2021 launched all states/uts and will hold a meeting with the Union Territories and states to review the action taken on the stock limit order on food prices through video conferencing.

In a letter to the states, the department outlines an initiative taken by the Centre to reduce the prices of edible oils for consumer relief and in view of the festive season. The statement said the department is monitoring the prices of edible oils as well as domestic supply. This is particularly important in the context of the upcoming festive season, in which the demand for edible oils will increase.
