New York: Forbes has included Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, HCL Corporation CEO and Executive Director Roshni Nadar Malhotra and Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw in the list of 100 most powerful women in the world. German Chancellor Angela Merkel tops the 2019 Forbes list of the world's 100 most powerful women.

Second on the list is Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank and third place is Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the lower house in the US Parliament. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina is at number 29 on this list. Forbes says that in 2019, she took a leadership role in government, industries, media, and charitable work by actively moving from women around the world. Sitharaman has been included in Forbes' list for the first time and is ranked 34th.

India's first finance minister Sitharaman was also the first Union defense minister. Sitharaman is the first woman minister to hold the finance ministry independently. Being the CEO of HCL Corporation, he is responsible for making all strategic decisions in the $ 8.9 billion company.
