New Delhi:  The Indian Wrestling Men & Women Team of 55 members has been permitted by the Government of India to compete in the first Ranking Series Zagreb Open Grand Prix (WW/GR/FS) Croatia from February 1-5, 2023. The government will also cover the entire cost of the wrestlers' travel to Croatia for the tournament, according to the release.

The selection was made by the Wrestling Federation of India's oversight committee, which was constituted by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. There will be 12 female wrestlers, 11 Greco-Roman wrestlers, and 13 male freestyle wrestlers competing. Tokyo Olympians Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Anshu Malik, and Deepak Punia are among the important wrestlers who have been sanctioned to compete in the Ranking Series.

Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sarita Mor, India's top wrestlers, voiced dismay on Tuesday that they were not informed before the Oversight Committee was constituted, despite assurances that they would be.

On Monday, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the formation of an oversight committee to investigate sexual harassment charges levelled against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and its president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Mary Kom, a boxing legend and Olympic medalist, will lead the five-member Oversight Committee.
