New Delhi: The High-Level Committee, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has authorised Rs 1,682.11 crores in additional Central assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for floods and landslides that occurred in 2021 in five states and one union territory. Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are among these states.
The increased Central support totals Rs 1,682.11 crores, with Rs 1,664.25 crore going to five states and Rs 17.86 crore going to one Union Territory. Andhra Pradesh would receive Rs 351.43 crore, Himachal Pradesh Rs 112.19 crore, Karnataka Rs 492.39 crore, Maharashtra Rs 355.39 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 352.85 crore, and Puducherry Rs 17.86 crore from the total of Rs 1,682.11 crore.
"This demonstrates the Union Government's determination to assist the people of the five states and one Union Territory who have been affected by natural catastrophes," the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.
This additional support is in addition to the money distributed by the Centre to the States in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), which are currently available to the States. During the fiscal year 2021-22, the Central Government distributed Rs 17,747.20 crore from the SDRF to 28 states and Rs 4,645.92 crore from the NDRF to eight states. Without waiting for a Memorandum from these States and Union Territories, the Central Government deputed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams to these states shortly after the disasters.
