Families of 26 more journalists who lost their lives in CORONA period will get financial assistance

New Delhi: The Central Government has approved a proposal to provide financial assistance to the families of 26 more journalists who lost their lives due to Covid-19. The approval was given last Thursday. In a statement, the government said that under the 'Journalist Welfare Scheme' of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, financial assistance of 5 lakh rupees each will be provided to the dependents of these journalists. In fact, the Ministry has issued a statement.

The statement said, "Today, the Central Government has approved a proposal of the Journalists Welfare Scheme Committee headed by Amit Khare, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to provide financial assistance. Not only that, but also, the Statement made by the Ministry, the Committee has considered the applications of the families of 11 journalists killed for reasons other than infection."

In fact, the Ministry says that the Committee has decided to hold a weekly meeting so that applications for financial assistance under the Journalists Welfare Scheme can be decided immediately. Accordingly, in the financial year 2020-21, the Central Government had provided such assistance to the families of 41 journalists who lost their lives due to Covid-19. And, just like that, a total of 67 families of journalists have been approved for financial assistance.
