New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Thursday that more than 138 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed to states and union territories so far.

"To date, more than 138 crores, exactly 1,38,46,29,010 vaccine doses, have been provided to States and Union Territories through the Government of India (free of cost channel) and direct state procurement category," according to the health ministry. "More than 22.78 crores, i.e. 22,78,95,731, in balance and unutilized COVID vaccination doses are still available for administration with the States or Union Territories," it detailed.

The immunisation campaign has been boosted by the availability of more vaccinations, improved visibility of vaccine availability for States and UTs to enable better planning, and a more efficient vaccine supply chain. The Centre has been helping the States and UTs by providing them with free COVID vaccines as part of the nationwide vaccination drive.

The Central Government would acquire and supply (free of charge) to States and UTs 75 percent of the vaccines manufactured by vaccine companies in the country in the new phase of the COVID-19 vaccination effort.
