New Delhi: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri dedicated 166 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations to service of the community on Friday, marking a significant step toward developing a natural gas-based economy.

In 41 Geographical Areas spanning 14 states, these CNG stations have been set up by GAIL (India) Limited and nine of its group City Gas Distribution (CGD) firms.

"It is an important step toward making environmentally friendly CNG more widely accessible in India to households, companies, and the transport industry. The market for CNG vehicles would be boosted, and manufacturing, skill development, and employment creation will all see exponential growth "Minister for the Union Hardeep Singh Puri said.

"Only about 900 CNG stations were present in the nation in 2014. There are already 4500 CNG stations, and in the next two years, there will be 8000. Notably, the number of PNG connections has surpassed 95 lakhs, up from about 24 lakhs in 2014 "Hardeep Singh Puri added.

Puri dedicated the stations via video link at a ceremony held locally, where Rameswar Teli, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment, Pankaj Jain, and other top Ministry and Oil and Gas company executives were also present.

Puri noted that the widespread use of CNG is expected to stimulate the market for CNG vehicles and will have a significant positive influence on manufacturing, skill development, and job creation.
