Centre proposes national retail trade policy: Minister Som Parkash

New Delhi: The Central government intends to create a national retail trade strategy to provide a suitable climate for the expansion of all formats of such commerce, and stakeholder consultations are underway.

In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash stated that a favourable climate can be created by simplifying laws and regulations. "The government proposes a national retail trade policy to provide a favourable environment for the expansion of all retail trade formats, including through simplifying rules and regulations." Stakeholder meetings are taking place," he stated.

In response to a proposal from Andhra Pradesh, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated the Centre has authorised the inclusion of the Hyderabad Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC) under the Industrial Corridor Programme. 'The development of the Orvakal node under the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor has also been approved by the Indian government.' 'A consultant has been hired to help with project development, including the construction of a thorough master plan and preliminary engineering for the Orvakal node,' he stated.
